May 20-22, at The Flea Theater in Tribeca, EMF is proud to present the first annual EMF LAB, a new concert series featuring composers and improvisers at early stages in their careers, sharing the stage with more established artists.

In this innaugural year, EMF Lab will present the music of Text of Light, Matthew Burtner, Wil Smith, Jenny Olivia Johnson, Evan Antonellis, The Airband, Todd Reynolds & Luke Dubois, Jennifer Stock, Rusty Limited Company, and others.

EAR TO THE EARTH

The praying mantis (photo below by Mark Moffett) is saying, "Pay attention. We're in trouble."

Moffett, ecologist, prize-winning photographer for National Geographic, recipient of the prestigious Lowell Thomas Medal from the Explorers Club and Rolex, wrote:

"Modern ecologists may have reached a limit on how effectively they can convey messages to the public, and they may now need to draw upon the emotional vibrancy offered by the arts."

NEW YORK CITY SOUNDSCAPE

Ear to the Earth 2008, EMF's annual festival of environmental sound, will take place between October 10 and 23 at Judson CHurch, Chelsea Art Museum, and other venues in New York City.

Among many events, the festival will launch New York Soundscape, a panoramic portrayal of New York City's personality and urban ecology in sound, including documentary field recordings, sound art compositions, and multimedia created by artists, students, and New Yorkers from all walks of life.
